All dependent (adult and pediatric) dental care at the Osan Dental Clinic is on a priority of care basis. The priority of care is:

  1. Dental Emergencies
  2. Class-3 Active-Duty Members
  3. Active-Duty Members
  4. Dependents
  5. Retirees
  6. Pay Patients

Typically, only appointments for Priority 1-3 are available, so plan to utilize off-base dental care, if needed.

Off-Base Treatment

Most dependent dental care occurs at local dental clinics. No referral is needed to use TRICARE insurance for dental treatment. Contact the dental clinic for a list of TRICARE Dental providers in your area.

It is advised to enroll and keep your family in theĀ TRICARE Dental Program InsuranceĀ to ensure your family has access to care when they need it.

Orthodontic Care

Osan does not have orthodontic capabilities and will send patients to Camp Humphreys depending on the case severity. Active-Duty and children arriving to Osan with orthodontic appliances or braces are not guaranteed on-base treatment.

Optometry

T he 51 MDG Optometry Clinic provides routine eye exams for Active-Duty.

However, Tricare does cover eye exams from qualified overseas optometrists with a primary care referral. If you require additional optometry services aside from those listed below, you may be referred off-base.

  • If a facility cannot provide interpreter services, please call the ISOS patient support team at +82Ā 080.429.0880Ā (Option 1) and say ā€œInterpreter Serviceā€. They will connect a local interpreter for real-time telephonic language assistance service

Transportation to Referral Clinics

Many local hospitals offer free shuttle services for members with referral appointments.Ā Click hereĀ for the shuttle schedule, pick-up locations, and contact information.

If members elect to drive their POV, travel less than 100 miles is not reimbursable. Be sure to visit the international services desk to receive validation for parking in hospital parking garages.

What to Expect at Off-Base Clinics and Hospitals

Due to the size of the local population and availability of state-of-the-art systems and processes most Korean hospitals have streamlined their processes to reduce waiting and improve patient flow. The result is highly efficient diagnosis and treatment that can also feel very different from what you may be accustomed to in the U.S. From registration to consultation and treatment, procedures are often quick and systematic. Consultations can sometimes feel rushed, especially if you’re used to a slower pace of healthcare in other countries.

Pro-Tips:

  • Upon arrival, report to the international clinic for assistance
  • Bring your passport, military ID, any Korean identification you might have, and any written prescriptions
  • Show up to your appointment well informed about why you are there
  • Writing down questions and take notes to ensure you get the information you need
  • Be prepared to pay a co-pay at the hospital. If it was unnecessary or an overpay, TRICARE will reimburse you automatically
  • Prescriptions will likely be billed as part of your visit
